Cheap paper refers to the combination of the cylindrical press in the time of publication and publishing where more items were printed, and with much more ease than earlier periods. This meant that the publication process was much more less labor intensive (since the press was now powered by water) and the cheap paper meant that now there was much better access to materials. When this occurred the distribution channels opened up more on the east coast, and womens' items began to be published as well as mens'. Although men wrote from a position of power about power, women mostly wrote in regards to the domestic sphere, which thanks to cheap paper and the new press, was now able to publish new ladies magazines.
